To achieve this, he built a passageway that connected the winery directly to the port of the nearby fishing village of Marzamemi. Once at the port, the wine was loaded into sailing ships’ holds through an ingenious system that pumped it from the dock into barrels using a gravity-fed mechanism.

This maritime transport method was used until 1935, when, thanks to the construction of the new railway, wine shipments began traveling by train instead.

Over the years, the company has never ceased its production and trade of wine, must, and grapes. In 2008, under Rosario’s direction, the estate underwent a complete modernization and the winery was renamed Casa Scalecci.

Rosario restored the old estate, expanded Feudo Scalecci by acquiring adjacent lands, and planted new vineyards. The company was reborn with a dual mission:

to experiment with wines made from less common grape varieties in the region, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Palava, and Petit Verdot;

and to promote Sicilian wine worldwide.

In both endeavors, excellent results have already been achieved: the terroir has proven capable of expressing even non-native grape varieties at their best, and Casa Scalecci wines have gained wide recognition abroad — in Brazil, China, Peru, France, and Germany.

["post-870","azienda","type-azienda","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
