The story of “Palmeri” begins with the Lutri family. Since the 15th century, this noble family has left its mark on southern Sicily. The “Palazzo Lutri”, located in the center of Avola, still bears witness to the family’s enduring legacy. Palmeri was long the family’s summer residence, and its lands have always been dedicated to agriculture.
In 2002, Erika and Ueli Breitschmid-Heiniger acquired the Palmeri estate, naturally continuing the family tradition of organic viticulture, a practice they had already successfully developed in Switzerland. In 2005, the first 4.5 hectares of vines were planted, marking the rebirth of the estate’s winemaking activity. That same year, restoration work began on several of the estate’s smaller buildings, along with the construction of a new winery.
Since 2009, wine has been produced directly at the Palmeri Estate. However, olives, oranges, almonds, lemons, and pomegranates continue to grow on the property and are harvested in small quantities each year, maintaining the estate’s rich agricultural tradition.
